All the Tibetan Children's Villages and Schools in India unanimously celebrated the Children's Day on the 14 November which is the birth Anniversary of the Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the 1st Prime Minister of Republic of Independent India.
This was followed by the presentation of various awards for the staff (25 years service holders) and the children: recognition award for all the school captains, prefects, monitors and house prefects as well as students who won prizes for various competitions like essay writings and Inter-Tibetan School Dialectic contests, etc.
Soon after the function, all the children were assembled at the basketball ground where all its surroundings were covered with colourful tents. Delicious sweets and eatables were distributed to all the children. While most of children kept busy with the eating, some children took to stage and started singing and dancing to entertain the gathering. These children also played various games among themselves and spent their day very joyfully. This was followed by a special and delicious food which was served for the children by the staff during the day. In the afternoon, the senior students and staff played a friendly cricket game.
Inter Tibetan Schools Dialect Competition at THF, Mussoorie 4-5 Nov 2008: News from Phayul [6 Nov 2008]
The second Inter Tibetan School dialectics competition was held at the Tsering Dolma auditorium of Tibetan Homes Foundation, Mussoorie. This contest is a follow up of the first ever such contest held in October 2005 organized by Tibetan Homes Foundation, Mussoorie marking the 70th birthday celebrations of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The two-day competition was held for students from grade VII and VIII. A total of five learned monks from Drikung College, Dekyiling and Tibetan College at Sarah, Dharamsala judged the contest. At the opening ceremony, Mr. Tashi Phuntsok, General Secretary of Tibetan Homes Foundation, welcomed the contestants and guets. The Chief Guest for the opening ceremony Venerable Gyatso, abbot of Sakya College, said when science is making continuous breakthroughs with reasoning this Tibetan traditional form of learning is very significant, as here too reasoning is the basis.
Honorable Kalon Thupten Lungrig, Minister of Education of the exile Tibetan government, graced the final of the dialectics competition yesterday with his presence. TCV Upper Dharamshala won the grade seven category, while Tibetan Homes School, Rajpur and TCV Suja were first and second runners up respectively.
In the grade eighth category, TCV Suja was the winner followed by Tibetan Homes, Mussooorie, and TCV lower Dharamshala. "The objective of this contest is to emphasize the Tibetan traditional form of learning (Tsenyi), which is based on verbal debate and reasoning, the importance of which has been stressed on by His Holiness the Dalai Lama," said Ngodup Norbu, education officer of the host school.
The participating schools were Central School for Tibetans Mussoorie, Central School for Tibetans Poanta, TCV Chauntra, Upper TCV, Lower TCV, TCV Suja, Sambodha School Chauntra, Sambodha School Bhuntar, Sambodha School Dickeyling, Tibetan Homes School Rajpur and Tibetan Homes School Mussoorie.
UTCV School Jr "Club Day" on 2 November 2008
Upper TCV School Junior Section observed its first ever "Club Day" on the 2 November 2008 with the invaluable inputs and resource pulled from various sources especially from the children itself to show case their achievements and learnings during the Saturday's Club periods.
All the children in Junion section were spread into numerous clubs each headed by 1 or 2 teachers to teach and supervise their learnings and developments over the periods. So in about 10-15 Club periods, these children have demonstrated their talents, skills, creativity and energy in achieving great heights be it in knitting, hand writing, song and dance, musical instruments, gardening, paper cutting , yoga to painting and sports, etc.
At the end of the program, the works of children were put on display for the general staff and children for sale and that it received immense response and appreciation for their creations.
