31 Aug: Under the guidance and leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and coordination of Tibetan Solidarity Committee, Dharamsala, Tibetans, Tibet supporters and all peace loving people of the world observed a 12 hour long fasting and prayer protest service at their respective localities including His Holiness the Dalai Lama who was at the Mumbai during the day.
Here in TCV School Dharamshala, even the junior and infant students took part in the fast and prayer service along with the staff at the Deckyi Tsering Hall. While the middle and senior students as well as other staff joined the general public at the Tsuk-lak-Khang.
This worldwide non-violent action campaign, initiated by Tibetan Solidarity Committee, is to further reinforce Tibetan people's commitment to nonviolence and strengthen its force in their struggle for freedom under the Dalai Lama's leadership.
27 Aug: Maj. General Rajeshwar Singh, AVSM, VSM, the Inspector General (IG) of Special Frontier Force(SFF) and Director General of Security, Cabinet Secretariat, New Delhi along with his wife and Dhepon of SFF paid a short visit to TCV School Dharamshala on 27 Aug morning. The visitors were taken around the school and village campus and later met with the President of TCV to share some lively thoughts and ideas on various issues concerning Tibetan youth, etc. Earlier, group of young Tibetans who were in Indian SFF had an opportunity to climb the great Mt. Everest and showed their zeal and capabilities, having walked shoulder to shoulder with other youths.
7 Aug: Choe Khor Dhuchen (Fourth Day of Sixth Month) was observed in the TCV Schools & Villages on the 5 Aug 2008.
The day was celebrated due to the fact that Buddha after attaining enlightenment, he gave his first teaching, known as the First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma, in order to help liberate sentient beings from samsara, or cyclic existence. The subject of the teaching was The Four Noble Truths, which he taught in the city of Benares in Sarnath, India. Till this day, known as Chokhor Duchen in Tibetan Buddhism, is honored in all Buddhist traditions. It is considered as one of the most supreme deeds of the Buddha and one of the major Buddhist festivals throughout the year.
In Upper TCV, a special tsok (food offering) took place in honour of the Choe Khor Dhuchen by the senior students and staff at the Deckyi Tsering Hall. On the following day morning, the staff and students had a Sangsol (Tsampa Offering) at School Temple.
