a
House of Peace and Dialogue (HPD)
Objectives

To initiate a fervent effort on the part of TCV to impart moral and value education, in line with His Holiness' teachings and guidance, along with its ongoing effort in educating our children in the modern education and way of life.

This centre will greatly benefit our children from various schools as well as 1000s of College/University going students by ensuring that they spend a productive holiday, meeting people of different culture, attending seminar, workshop etc. It will serve as a meeting place for these students with people from other schools/colleges of India and abroad during their holidays. Exchange programs, seminars, workshops etc. could be held for these students during their holidays.

This centre will greatly expand the scope of exchange program and help us to reach out to the many young Tibetans who have not had the opportunity to grow up in a Tibetan community, learning Tibetan culture and way of life.

Dharamsala becoming a global destination attracts people from all walks of life and from all parts of the world. Thus we feel that our children will get to learn about all the different cultures of the world if we take the opportunity to arrange interactions between our children and the visiting scholars, dignitaries and representative from a community.

The Basecamp Explorer, Norway (Base Camp Explorer is promoting and organizing a novel and pioneering idea of Eco-tourism.) Through the eco-tourism, Base Camp Explorer aims to promote responsible travelling on the parts of the tourists (minimising the negative effects of tourism on the local environment) and at the same time contribute to the local economy and well being.

With the inspiration and support from the Basecamp Explorer, the House of Peace and Dialogue will also help promote the 'Eco-Tourism' by organising Sustainable Tourism Development Programmes and Activities at its premesis.

There are over 550 teachers in all the TCV schools in India. This House will also be utilized for teachers' training in moral education and the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This is an effort to realize our educational mission of proving a deep and intimate understanding of our rich cultural heritage along with the best of modern education.

This House could also be utilized as Guest House for many of our sponsors who visit us throughout the year. The sponsors could spend some valuable time with their sponsored child and it will give them the required space and privacy.

The overall objective of the project is to provide all-round care and education for orphaned and destitute Tibetan children in exile, fulfilling their basic needs, improving their quality of life and providing them with the necessary education, knowledge and skills for them to grow up as self-reliant and contributing members of the community at large. In this, their rights are to be protected and upheld as in accordance with the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child, in particular with regards to the right

  • to special protection and assistance when temporarily or permanently deprived of his/her family environment (Article 20)
  • to a standard of living adequate for the child's physical, mental, spiritual, moral and social development (Art 27)
